The difference between dry and dehydrated skin - take the test today

It’s been all about dewy and glowing skin over the last few years, a trend many of us have been seeing everywhere. If you’re someone with dry or dehydrated skin, don’t worry! You can definitely achieve the look of a dewy glowing goddess too! But first, it is important to figure out whether your skin is dry or just dehydrated (yes, there is a difference!) in order to do the best for your skin. Although dry and dehydrated skin may have similar qualities, there is a way to tell which you have.

With dry skin, you may experience flakiness, redness, irritation and increased incidence of psoriasis, eczema, or dermatitis. On the other hand, having dehydrated skin means your skin lacks water. This can happen to anyone, even if you have oily skin! With dehydrated skin, you may notice darkness under your eyes or tired looking eyes, itch, skin dullness and more pronounced fine lines and wrinkles.

The Pinch Test

Although this is not a definitive test, it is a quick at-home way to see if your skin is dehydrated. All you have to do is pinch your cheek for a few seconds and let go. If the skin bounces back quickly, you’re most likely not dehydrated. However, if it takes a few seconds, you may be dehydrated. A more definitive way to know would be to have a consultation with our consultants at BMF. They would be able to give you a more accurate answer and provide the appropriate treatment solutions.

Take a look at BMF’s treatments which target dehydrated and dry skin:

There may also be some things you’re doing that could be drying or dehydrating your skin further.

  1. Not drinking enough water or consuming enough water-rich fruits and vegetables
Drinking enough water every day will ensure you are hydrated, which will keep your skin feeling soft and supple. However, if you find it difficult to up your water intake, try to add more water-rich fruits and vegetables to your diet.
  2. Washing your face with hot water
Did you know that hot water dries out your skin further? Try washing your face with lukewarm to room temperature water instead.
  3. Not using a humidifier
Humidifiers add moisture into the air, which will prevent your skin from drying out in an air-conditioned room.
  4. Not using sheet masks regularly
